FAQ
What does the EU AI Act require organizations to do?
The EU AI Act introduces a risk-based regulatory framework that requires organizations to ensure transparency, accountability, and control over their AI systems. This includes identifying and classifying AI use cases, implementing risk management measures, ensuring traceability of decisions and data processing, and maintaining proper documentation. Organizations must also continuously monitor their AI systems to remain compliant with evolving regulatory expectations.
How can companies determine whether their AI systems are high-risk?
Determining whether an AI system is classified as high-risk requires a structured assessment of its purpose, use case, and potential impact. This includes analyzing how the system processes data, affects individuals, and interacts with critical functions such as hiring, finance, or safety. A systematic data flow analysis and risk assessment help organizations identify high-risk AI systems and define appropriate compliance measures early on.

Which EU AI Act deadlines apply in 2026 and beyond?
The rules already in force stay in force: bans on prohibited AI practices have applied since 2 February 2025, obligations for general-purpose AI models since 2 August 2025. The deadlines for high-risk AI systems were postponed by the Digital Omnibus in June 2026.
Stand-alone high-risk systems (Annex III) must comply by 2 December 2027, AI embedded in regulated products such as medical devices or vehicles (Annex I) by 2 August 2028.
Waiting is still risky: classification, documentation, and governance structures take time to build, and the earlier obligations continue to apply.
What are the penalties for violating the EU AI Act?
Penalties are tiered: prohibited AI practices can trigger fines of up to EUR 35 million or 7 percent of global annual turnover, other violations up to EUR 15 million or 3 percent.
Beyond fines, non-compliance can block AI systems from the EU market.
