For a leading automotive manufacturer, diconium developed innovative end-to-end solutions to increase the business value of a subscription-based service. By optimizing mobile applications, integrating a unified backend system, and enabling seamless interaction with the car’s infotainment system, we improved the customer experience and established a future-proof foundation for further innovation.

Task
To improve the business value of a subscription-based service, three mobile applications (Android Auto, Android, iOS), as well as the backend system, were developed from scratch within a short timeframe within a short timeframe. A key requirement was their integration into a unified backend system that orchestrates all data and ensures a consistent user experience across all platforms.

Challenge
The main challenges of the project included an extremely short timeline, cross-functional collaboration across time zones (Germany, India, and Portugal), and alignment of varying technological standards.
On top of that, the project followed an agile development process and required comprehensive technical documentation, as well as a new UI/UX aligned with the client’s design language. It also involved the simultaneous delivery of three mobile applications (Android Auto, Android, and iOS), one backend microservice, and a cloud messaging service.
Additionally, more than 20 quality and compliance criteria had to be met, including code quality, security, and AI integration.

Solution
To deliver a compelling solution within the shortest possible time, clear goals were defined from the outset, and the cross-national diconium team was structured accordingly. A shared "sandbox" environment enabled international team members to collaborate seamlessly and access the project at any time.
The technical implementation was built on a robust Spring Boot backend, leveraging the latest Java features to ensure efficiency and security. Seamless integration with the unified backend system orchestrated data flow across applications, providing a consistent user experience across all platforms.
For the Android Auto solution, a dedicated app was developed and tightly integrated with the newly built Android application. The Android and iOS applications were developed as separate projects from scratch and aligned to ensure a consistent cross-platform user experience. Firebase enabled real-time communication and data synchronization, supporting cloud messaging between applications. PostgreSQL was used as a reliable and scalable database, while the entire solution was hosted on AWS to ensure maximum scalability and resilience.

Successes
Despite a tight timeline, the project was successfully completed. Through a clear distribution of roles and optimized communication, technical challenges in international teamwork could be solved quickly. With three native apps (Android Auto, Android and iOS) and seamless backend integration, 100% of the mandatory criteria and over 90% of the bonus criteria were met.
