Car Manufacturer
EV charging app with route planning
Our story
01
Task
For the release of an e-car model, diconium was to realize the customer journey around the electric charging of the vehicle for its client. The vision: to be the best charging provider on the market. Driving an e-car would then finally become a matter of course, because the user could find out about charging stations in advance and receive details about providers, locations, connections, etc., as well as pre-plan routes including charging stops.
02
The Challenge
The challenge involved a tight timeframe leading up to the release of a new car model and the app's go-live, alongside the parallel development of interdependent third-party systems. Additionally, we had to manage changing requirements due to concurrent business dependencies, such as varying market demands and pricing models.
03
Our Solution
Our solution involved collaborating with all stakeholders within the SAFe framework. We developed native mobile frontends for iOS and Android, along with a charging backend serving as a central service hub. A public web interface was created for charging point search, route planning, and platform integration. Additionally, we introduced convenience features like RFID card ordering and rate selection for public charging. The solution also included the integration of controls for managing wallboxes and seamless connection to the customer’s service systems for full app integration.
04
Successes
The charging services were launched in numerous EU markets, and the number of registered users shot up rapidly in the first few months. They all benefit from the wide range of digital functions related to charging, all of which are used via the car manufacturer's app. Web-based route planning rounds off the service. The app shows all available charging points and provides important information on the charging price and availability (free / occupied). In the future, it will also be possible to start and stop the charging process via the app and to display only charging points that are powered by green electricity. The intelligent route planning takes into account both the available charging points and the desired charging strategy. This makes planning easier, especially on longer routes. Users of our client's smart wallboxes for charging at home, receive additional useful online services, such as charging statistics, access management or remote control.
